GEORGE
LACEY

Hi Nancy – I don’t know if you remember me, but my husband and I adopted a one-year-old Maltese mix from you on November 18, 2003. He came from Adams County as a stray, and we picked him up at the vet the day he was neutered.
We named him Riley, and he was one of the best dogs we’ve ever had. He was diagnosed with IBD about two years after we adopted him, and he did very well with it. He saw an Internal Medicine Specialist regularly and was very well controlled. And then a couple months ago, on September 13th, he was admitted to the hospital for vomiting. And despite giving him the best care possible, he passed away on September 16th from severe, acute necrotizing pancreatitis.
Riley was my husband’s best friend. He was a gentle, agreeable soul; and a huge part of our lives. We are devastated, and sometimes I think I will never get over losing him. He was fine one day and gone four days later. But I can tell you I have absolutely no regrets. Riley never got into trouble for anything, and he lived a happy life each and every day.
I didn’t know if you needed to have this information for your records or not, but thought I should let you know.
I have attached two pictures of Riley for you – the first was taken just a few days after we adopted him. The second was taken this past summer – sitting on his daddy’s lap, where as you can tell, he was so happy.
Thanks for giving us the opportunity to have him in our lives. We will NEVER forget him.
Sincerely,
Nancy G.
RAINBOW BRIDGE
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
